Disney Movie Which Villain Not Appear on Screen
UPDATED: November 23, 2021 to reflect the premiere of Encanto on November 24, 2021.
Encanto, Disney's long-awaited latest animated musical, premieres November 24 in theaters and December 24 on Disney+. The film follows a family who all have special powers — well, almost all of them — and who live in a magical and protected small mountain village. It Stephanie Beatriz and John Leguizamo with original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It also has been a long time coming.
After the coronavirus pandemic sent all of Hollywood scrambling and release dates shuffling, Walt Disney Studios and its subsidiaries — aka Marvel, 20th Century, Pixar, Searchlight and more — moved premiere dates for some major releases. An example: The long-awaited fifth Indiana Jones movie, which was scheduled to be released in summer 2022, has shifted to a June 30, 2023 release. Other schedule changes include Thor: Love and Thunder, which moves to July 8, 2022 and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which moves to November 11, 2022.
Walt Disney Studios is an expert at straddling the line between popcorn programming and awards season darlings. Continuing with its theme park adaptations, the Mouse House recently announced that Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson would be joining the cast of director Justin Simien'sHaunted Mansion movie. And news also recently broke that there are plans for a second Jungle Cruise film after the box office success of the 2021 Emily Blunt-Dwayne Johnson film. In original properties not based on IPs, Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds has stated that the studio would be interested in a sequel to that summer 2021 hit.
Meanwhile, Disney and its subsidiaries are entering the 2021 awards season full steam. Films released this season besides Encanto include Steven Spielberg's remake of the musical West Side Story and Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch.
Below, we've gathered details for some of the flashier Disney and Disney-associated films that are expected to hit in the next few years – it's the most comprehensive new Disney movies list you'll find. We'll add to this list as more information becomes available, especially in regards to the speculation surrounding Marvel and Pixar movies still waiting release dates – and in some cases, titles – as well as other rumored and in-development films like the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean.
